Oracle Knights
Yulia was a Seventh Fonist that was especially skilled in prophecy. She was able to see thousands of years into the future. Yulia’s prophecy became known as The Score, which was written in seven parts. The Score is said to foretell “unprecedented prosperity” for the land of Auldrant, and therefore the people in Tales of the Abyss follow the Score dearly. They even received yearly “birthday scores” read on their birthday. It is obvious that the people of Auldrant relied heavily on the Score and would not stray from what it said. However, only six of the seven Fonstones on which the Score was written were known to the people, as Yulia hid the seventh one away herself. The seventh Fonstone predicted destruction, but it was a future that Yulia did not wish for the world. In hiding it away, she hoped that the people would make a new future for themselves.
Yulia founded the Order of Lorelei, so the organization is based on the religion of the Score. The Order of Lorelei is responsible for reading the Score and follow Yulia’s teachings. They also have the goal of preventing a war from breaking out between the Malkuth and Kimlasca empires. Fon Master Ion is the leader of the Order of Lorelei, and therefore people also wish to follow his wishes as well as the teaching of Yulia. The Ion that the party makes friends with is not the original, as the original was sick. He allowed Van to make replicas of him, and the current Fon Master was the one with abilities closest to the original Ion.
There are many divisions of the Order of Lorelei. The Oracle Knights division is the army for the Order. Tear herself is an Oracle soldier as part of the Intelligence Division in the first platoon under Grand Maestro Mohs. The six God-Generals, under the leadership of the Commandant Van Grants, is the most ‘powerful’ faction of the Oracle Knights, consisting of Asch the Bloody, Legretta the Quick, Arietta the Wild, Sync the Tempest, Dist the Reaper, and Largo the Black Lion. After time, the God-Generals appear to be working against the number one priority of the Oracle Knights – keeping to the Score. As time progresses, it becomes obvious that the God-Generals are working for just the opposite. They want to destroy the Score and be able to live by their own free will.
Tear takes her role as being an Oracle Knight very seriously, and is obviously a good soldier. As she spends more time with the party, Tear realizes that staying so close to the Score is a mistake, and as an Oracle Knight, she too is a fault. By the end of the game, Tear makes the decision that she will live not according to the score, but by her own free will. She then helps Luke and the others to stop Van’s plans of creating a new world filled with replicas, as she believes that is the wrong way to fight the Score.
