Melody
Tear uses the power of the Seventh Fonon (sound) to aid her in battle. She utilizes music as a specific strand of sound. Music dates back far before we have records, as it probably predates language. Every culture existing has some form of it, and it is even argued that nature has its own form of music. Music is considered a universal language of sorts because the feelings and emotions gained from listening to it are important, not necessarily the words that may make it up.Probably most closely linked to Tear, music has been powerfully connected with copious amounts of religions. The music developed during the Middle Ages in Europe was almost purely secular. As Yulia founded the religion based off of the Score, I am sure that her hymns are probably considered to be holy, especially with the amount of people who actually can use them. Chants, and hymns were commonly developed in many religions in real life. A hymn is defined as:
hymn (n.) a religious song or poem, typically of praise to God or a god.Hymns were originally used as songs written in honor of the Gods. Though Yulia is never said to be a Goddess, her role seems to be like one, though obviously not as much as Martel in Tales of Symphonia. She is the one who created the Score that the people of Auldrant follow so closely, so some ties can probably be made to religion. I will admit that I do not know very much about various religion, so in avoidance of offending anyone, I will not delve any deeper into that aspect.
Regardless of for what or why, music is a powerful tool in the real world. Whether it be used to soothe a crying baby or calm a raging animal or simply overpowering a crowd of people at a concert, music has the strength to change. So, even though at first glance it may seem ridiculous that Tear uses music of all things as her form of attacking, you may want to think twice about it. What is your favorite song? What emotions does it make you feel? How does something so simple as some sounds and some pitches with words thrown in there manage to change your emotions? Well, that is the power of music. Music; the universal language used by every being on the planet.
