Fonons

Fonons are the basic particles that make up all living and non-living matter. They are probably roughly the equivalent of atoms in real life. There are seven types of fonons, each representing an element.

• First Fonon – Dark
• Second Fonon – Earth
• Third Fonon – Wind
• Fourth Fonon – Water
• Fifth Fonon – Fire
• Sixth Fonon – Light
• Seventh Fonon – Sound

There are many different uses of fonons, as everything is based off of them. Fields of Fonons (FOF) are probably the most obvious in the game, as the party uses them during battle to change certain artes into others depending on the element. Fonic Artes would be next, as the party uses them to heal, cast artes or attack with the power of fonons. Machinery in Auldrant is also made with the use of fonons and it is called Fontech. A large plotline, if not one of the most important ones, in the game is the science of Fomicry, created by Jade Curtiss. Fomicry is using the Seventh Fonon to create replicas of people and objects.

When the Seventh Fonons react, they create something called a hyperresonance. Normally it would require two Seventh Fonists to be together, but Luke and Asch have the ability to create one on their own. The reason Luke and Tear are transported away from the Fabre manor is because Tear, as a Seventh Fonist, accidentally attacked Luke and the Seventh Fonons reacted with each other, causing the explosion of sorts.

Fonists are people who use Fonic Artes. Jade is a Fonist, as he is able to cast many Fonic Artes. Tear is a special kind of fonist called a Seventh Fonist. She knows the seven fonic hymns and uses the Seventh Fonon, sound, to fight her enemies. Seventh Fonists are not prominent in Auldrant, and they are divided into two categories – Scorers and healers. But, Tear is a healer who is not limited to only Fonic Artes, as she is a descendant of Yulia. She is able to use Yulia’s fonic hymns because she understands the meaning and emotions behind them, thus opening her to the power of the Grand Fonic Hymn.
