Game versus Manga versus OVA
As you may know by now, Tales of Symphonia is a manga and upcoming OVA series as well as the original videogame. Naturally, there are some differences between them, though they generally follow the same plot and character personalities.
TALES OF SYMPHONIA MANGA
Art By: Hitoshi Ichimura
I have not read all of the current chapters of the manga series, but for the most part, the first few chapters seem to stick to the plot of the videogame pretty closely. There were some side stories that did not happen in the game and vice versa. The characters are generally the same personality wise as they were in the videogame as well. I am not a huge fan of the art, but if you are a Symphonia fan, this is probably something you would be interested in checking out. The manga series is currently not completed, nor has it been translated into English, but you could find it at a store that sells Japanese import manga, or some place like Ebay. If you would like to sample some of the first chapters, I would suggest heading over to Mizuho to preview it before investing in buying it.
TALES OF SYMPHONIA OVA
Release Date: June 8th, 2007
The Tales of Symphonia OVA started with the first release in June of 2007. You can visit the official site for more related things, or view the official trailer as a preview. The art is different from the animated cutscenes in the game, and I have yet to decide whether I like it or not. Judging by the first OVA, it goes a lot faster than the game and the manga, though I suppose that was to be expected as the game storyline is pretty long for an OVA. A lot of scenes are skipped, but it seems to be going more into Anna's character, which may mean more for Kratos/Anna/Lloyd relationship, but we'll see. More will be added when the others are released and I watch them.
