Characters
The following people are the main characters in Tales of Symphonia, the top seven being the ones you can actually play as. Some characters are spoilers simply by existing, so be sure to keep that in mind.
Lloyd Irving is the main character in Tales of Symphonia. He is a strong-willed swordsman that often gets mistaken as being stubborn, or even rash or unintelligent. Lloyd's mother was killed, and he does not know what happened to his father, so a dwarf named Dirk raised him. He lives with his adoptive father on the outskirts of Iselia, where Colette Brunel and Genis Sage befriend him. Lloyd often daydreams during school, causing his teacher, Raine Sage, to embarrass him by calling on him frequently. Lloyd is not the most knowledgeable person among the group, but he does display incredible skill in dwarven techniques and trademarks. His simple way of thinking and doing things ends up drawing people close to him. Lloyd trusts people easily, and does not have problems making friends with others. He is willing to do anything to save the world and the people within it that he cares about so much.
Colette Brunel is the lead female role in Tales of Symphonia. She is the Chosen of Mana, and is on a journey in order to regenerate Sylvarant to bring salvation and prosperity to the world. Colette is a very kind-hearted girl, who wants to help in any way she can. She does not want anyone to get hurt or have to be sacrificed, and will do anything to protect the people she cares about. She hates the idea of worrying or being a burden to others and therefore keeps her inner turmoil to herself, or apologizes profusely about "mistakes" that she has made. Colette is rather clumsy, as she is notorious for tripping or bumping into people or things. She is generally a very cheerful girl, and just wants the best for everyone. Colette is a close friend to Lloyd and Genis because the three of them grew up together. She wants only to try her best to stop all of the suffering around her without sacrificing anyone more people, innocent or not.
Genis Sage is a young boy that is best friends with Lloyd. He is most known for his incredible and extensive knowledge and usage of magic. Genis has a large understanding of how the world works and is very useful to the Chosen's group because of this and his ability to become like a textbook. Though he is young, Genis is usually very mature about any situation that he is faced with. Unless, of course, he is incredibly excited, in which he can get hyper and even act childish. He lives in Iselia with his older sister Raine, and attends her class for school with Lloyd and Colette. Genis, although he has a strong dislike for humans, has a kind heart and is willing to risk himself for the people he cares about.
Raine Sage is one of the original guardians of Colette on her journey. She was the professor at Iselia, teaching a class of quite a few students including her younger brother, Genis, and their friends Lloyd and Colette. Raine is very logical and even sometimes analytical, but she always has good intentions no matter what. Raine is highly known for her love of ruins and ancient things, as well as her powerful healing techniques. Due to events in her past, Raine is not the most trusting of people, but once her trust is gained; she will look out for the well being of that person no matter what happens. Raine is a very intelligent person like her brother and becomes a valuable asset to Lloyd and his friends.
Kratos Aurion is the mysterious mercenary that is willing to be one of Colette's guardians as long as he gets paid for the job. He seems to be very reserved and you can never tell what his intentions are or where his allegiance lies. Kratos has a hidden reason for the things he does, but the party does not find that out until much later on in the game. Kratos is a very intricate person, even though he comes off as being cold, straightforward and critical. He really does look out for Lloyd and the others underneath his stone exterior. Kratos has a very tragic past, as well as many secrets, leaving people trying to figure out whom he really is. Polaris is dedicated to his character, so keep browsing to find out more.
Sheena Fujibayashi is a woman who is hired to assassinate the Chosen of Mana in Sylvarant. She appears to be rather open about her feelings and is not afraid to let people know if she is upset with them. Sheena specializes in the long lost art of summoning and can make pacts with the different summon spirits. She is best friends with Corrine, the only human made summon spirit, who she gets a lot of her support from. Due to a tragedy in her past, Sheena does not have a lot of confidence in her abilities. Sheena, however, is willing to do just about anything to create a world where no one has to suffer, and is quick to help Lloyd and company on their journey to do so.
Presea Combatir is a girl from Tethe'alla that the party discovers in Meltokio. Something seems to be different about her, as she is completely emotionless and does not realize exactly what is going on around her completely. Presea joins the party in order to return home and they learn from the people of the town that she has been the same age for quite some time. Lloyd and the group get a key crest made for Presea's Exsphere and they discover that is what had kept her from aging. Presea is a very logical, almost computer-like person, and bases everything off of calculations or observations. She does not fully understand emotions, but as she spends more time with the party, she begins to become more human-like.
Zelos Wilder is the Chosen of Mana in Tethe'alla...though he does not act like one. He is a very carefree person, who can act somewhat devious and not seem to care about his duty as Chosen. Zelos is also a big womanizer and is not very fond of men. He can usually be found with a group of women around him and there are comments made to imply that he sleeps around. Zelos begins to change a little by opening up to Lloyd and helping the party out because of his ties with Sheena. However, Zelos has good intentions, and remains loyal to those who trust and care about him. He is kind of like a counterpart to Kratos since he is introduced when Kratos leaves, and vice versa if Kratos rejoins the party.
Mithos Yggdrasill was one of the four original Seraphim alongside Martel, Yuan and Kratos. He made a pact with the king of spirits, Origin, through Kratos and created the Eternal Sword to cut the world in two. After the death of his sister Martel, he mistakes her wish of a world with no suffering due to race for a world in which everyone is the same. Mithos is in charge of all the human ranches, Desians and Exspheres, as well as the journey of Regeneration being a scam. Mithos, in desperation to resurrect his sister, becomes the main and final antagonist in Tales of Symphonia.
